When director Daniel Schmid grew up, his parents ran a hotel in the Alps, and this singular setting was to influence his film. Rather by coincidence he came to Berlin in the early 1960s and became part of the new German wave. Schmid worked with, among others, Wenders and Fassbinder, for example as an actor in Wender’s The American Friend. He met Ingrid Caven, who was to play a diva in several of his films. This is a documentation of a part of modern European film history and a good analysis of artistry and how it corresponds to the individual behind the camera. One day, the brave pilot Riccardo Mortara and his close-knit team decided to circumnavigate the world by plane in order to break the existing time record. This event is reflected in the documentary 360: Around the World (360° Around the World).
The previous record was set by Steve Fosset. Ricciardo planned to fly from Switzerland and return to it, flying around the world in 67 hours. The focus of the film is not on the control of the most modern aircraft specially built for the world record, but on Mortara's relationship with his team. After all, without trust in each other, without mutual understanding and mutual respect, it is impossible to show such high results. The human factor, as usual, plays not the last role. This is an example of qualified team and aircraft management, strong character, endurance and discipline, supported by logistics and navigation skills brought to the highest professionalism. close

Carter’s failed attempt sets the stage for an understanding of the path America ultimately took – instead of moving toward true energy security and an abundance of readily available energy sources, becoming a country dependent on oil supplies, a country that lacks the political will to pursue alternative energy sources. close
