Dancing on Dangerous Ground is not just an Irish dance. This is a full-scale theatrical performance, based on the Celtic legend of the lovers Diarmaid and Grania (the story from the series of stories about Finn McCool).
Grania, the daughter of the supreme king of Ireland, is given against her will to marry Finn (the leader of the royal army). And it so happened that she meets and falls in love with her husband’s nephew – a beautiful young warrior Diarmaid, in whose arms more than one woman dreamed of visiting. And despite their marital status, Grania charms Diarmaid - they escape together, thus dooming themselves to eternal life on the run from Finn's troops.
The creators of this show were Gene Butler and Colin Dunn, who after leaving Riverdance had time to create their own performance. They planned Dancing on Dangerous Ground for about a year, and only 3 months were allocated to the production of the show. This was clearly not enough, since the dance was going to use not quite standard choreography, actively using the hands of dancers. In addition, on stage it was necessary not only to dance, but also to perform the roles prescribed for the plot. As a result, three dozen of the best dancers from around the world were forced to rehearse for 12 hours a day and almost without a weekend.
The music for "Dancing on Dangerous Ground" was written by Simus Egan, the leader of the famous folk band "Solas". The plot of the play is transmitted mainly only by music and dance - plus sometimes a voice-over.
The show premiered in London in 1999 and was later shown in New York in 2000. Dancing on Dangerous Ground was a good success (especially after the London premiere), but in the end it never took root, and now this performance is not shown on any stage in the world. close
