In May 1943, Lieutenant of State Security Nikolai Kovalchuk received a task from the head of the UKR SMERSH, Major-General Polunochenko, to check the usual school watchman Veniamin Shubnik, who for some reason is interested in German intelligence.
During the investigation conducted by the hero of the film “Death to Spies!” Operation Shock Wave, it turns out that Shubnikov previously worked as a nuclear physicist at the Ukrainian Institute of Physics and Technology. In 1939 he was arrested on charges of sabotage. During the transfer to the camp, Shubin and another physicist on the same case, German Georg Houtermans, escaped.
According to intelligence channels, the Germans, fearing an imminent offensive by Soviet troops, intend to dismantle the uranium boiler located in the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology and take it to Germany. To prevent this, Soviet intelligence is developing a secret operation.
Kovalchuk appeals to Polunochenko with a proposal to use Shubnikov to infiltrate the institute. It is necessary that the Germans transport the scientist across the front line, in which case SMERSH can control access to the reactor. Instead of Shubnikov, it is planned to send an employee of SMERSH. But personal antipathy and distrust of the enemy of the people greatly hampers preparation.
And at the same time in Kharkov to dismantle the uranium boiler, comes agreed to cooperate with the Germans Georg Houtermans. The danger that a nuclear reactor will fall into the hands of the enemy is increasing every day, and, therefore, it is no longer possible to delay the planned operation.
Movie: Death to Spies! Operation Shock Wave is a continuation of a series of military adventure films about intelligence officers, which began in 2007 with series "Death to Spies". close
