There is a group called Gogol Bordello. The group is American, but consists of immigrants, mostly from Eastern Europe. Its frontman, Yevgeny Gudz, emigrated from Ukraine.
They play what Wikipedia characterizes as a “combination of romance, punk, folk rock and rock ‘n’ roll”, it states: “their music was influenced by Ukrainian, Belarusian and Russian folk motifs, Carpathian, Gypsy music, accompanied by accordion and violin (in some albums and saxophone)”.
Evgeny Gudz sometimes plays in movies. For example, he can be seen in the movie Everything Is Illuminated. Translate as you want, in English is clearer. He played a rogue émigré from Ukraine there, and he was actually pretty good.
I'll take a moment to say that the film is based on Jonathan Safran Foer's book, and it's actually much better. It is touching and strange enough that it knocks you out of your usual rut and makes you feel things. I don't remember the details well, but it's a good feeling: light and a little sad.
Eugene Gudz also played in the film Filth and Wisdom. It's Madonna's directorial debut, and then she did W.E., and it's, frankly, total shit.
Filth and Wisdom are excellent. It’s about an immigrant who looks a lot like Evgeny Gudzia (he plays him) who is trying to promote his punk rock band (which looks a lot like Gogol Bordello, and they seem to play it too). In the soundtracks, of course, Gogol Bordello. And this movie is also "paaaaanque", as well as the band. Cheerful, lively, ironic, but terribly real.
Seriously, just watch the trailer. I don’t know what else to add: striptease, sex, gypsy punk rock, bright clothes. To shake, but not to mix.
