To begin with, the film turned out to be very Barkerian in spirit (since we are dealing with meat, instead of “spirit” I want to write “shower”): a lot of blood, a lot of cruelty, enough naked bodies and the only erotic scene that will be enough. The film seems as believable as the story of a butcher killing passengers trapped in an empty subway car at night can be. I mean, murder scenes don't look absurd, but they're shot as repulsively and aesthetically as possible.
I like the cast, moreover, I admire Winnie Jones as Mahoghani, calm and unflappable. It is through this equanimity and methodicalness with which Mahogani does his job that the film becomes intense, exciting. My favorite is a scene in a meat warehouse where Leon hides from his pursuer among the carcasses. The further away, the more grotesque, the more murders, the atmosphere thickens, and for some time the creators have the means to finish the film with dignity. I liked the scenery, the space where the heroes are brought by the train that turned the wrong way. This story has no beginning and no end, it can be told as long as you like, very little is known about the creatures called “forefathers”, and this is the main mystery that the Midnight Express leaves behind. In general, there were several moments when it became too vulgar or boring, but they could not spoil the impressions of the film.
