Iranian director Asghar Farhadi's film Darbareye Elly (2009) It’s such a pretty intimate story about people and their prejudices and their actions, which we may not be very familiar with because it’s in Iran. A group of long-term friends goes on a weekend on the coast of the Caspian Sea, they all know each other well, except for one young woman who was invited by the organizer of this event, Sepide (Golshifte Farahani), a certain Ellie (Tarane Alidosti), who seems to be her daughter’s teacher. And she invited her to meet their friend Ahmad (Shahab Hosseini), who came from Germany, where he lived for many years, he recently divorced his wife and Sepide decided that she and Ellie might be a match. From the very beginning, the trip was not very set, and then inconsistencies and troubles, up to completely tragic events, began to grow. A significant role in all this was played by total lies, they lie there inadvertently – both to each other and to others, and the lion’s share of this lie falls on Sepida, who was initially better informed, but concealed it. Of course, there is nothing secret that is not revealed. Everything begins to collapse, including in their relations with each other, well, you can not lie so much, you still need to think through how actions will affect other people, again, play a significant role and some local traditions, observing which, some actions are not recommended to commit, although they do not bother much about this, but still. The film is very interesting, I think it is worth watching.
