and what is the secret that you have? Everyone has their own secrets, some have big secrets, some have small secrets, but everyone without exception has them. Same thing with the Rizzo family. Standard American family: father, mother and two children: son and daughter. But one day in one of the criminals (and Vincent, the name of the head of the family, works in prison as a kind of guard) recognizes his son and brings him home. It was his secret. His wife is crazy about the new settler in their house, it's her secret. The son is playing with his fat neighbor from the house opposite (the key word here is fatty) - this is his secret. Well, the daughter works as a stripper, as she was deprived of a scholarship and she can not pay for her studies.
In principle, the initial arrangement is something like this. On all sites in the genre graph “comedy” is written. And in principle, the brief description of this film adjusts to the appropriate mood, so I was waiting for the appropriate one. It's stupid to laugh and forget. But director Raymond De Felitta offered another way out. He decided to turn a comedy into a serious film, so I thought it was too serious. If I didn’t know what genre it was, it would seem to me quite such a sluggish film like the Ten-inch Hero, but not a comedy.
I have great respect for the work of independent studios. They make films the way they see them, not the way producers impose them, so I won’t go into that too much.
The cast didn’t make much of an impression on me. If Andy Garcia didn’t like his role any more, the rest of the cast just killed me, especially Steven Strait, who played Tony, Vincent’s new son. The actor, whose every second word was “Great”, well, you agree.
In general, quite a good film, which is the most that shines, is a nomination for the Golden Globe for best comedy (although it is not such in my opinion, but academics have their own quirks) and a nomination for best screenplay. It makes you feel good after watching.
