To be honest, I only started watching the movie because one of my favorite actors, Kevin Costner, was in it. Although many people said that his acting career ended with a triumphant death in Perfect World, I didn’t believe it until the end, and I liked Water World as well, and I hoped that it would show a good performance. That's what happened. Costner fits very well into his role as an adviser to the president, who does nothing but advise. But I didn’t like the actor who played the president himself. He really enjoyed playing presidents. I remember him from the following films: Treasures of the Nation: Book of Secrets. He also played President of the United States there, but he looks more like Kennedy in appearance, although I imagined him as a completely different person than Bruce Greenwood showed us. He's a good actor. And in "Star Trek" he played the captain perfectly, and in "White Captivity" the collector of space rocks is also not bad, but in this film somehow did not work.
The main problem with the film, in my opinion, is that it is highly politicized. There is no view from the outside, only from the inside. The whole movie is about a bunch of politicians deciding what to do with Soviet ships, with Soviet missiles in Cuba, and so on. It feels like two and a half hours watching a documentary, or just a news chronicle, but not a feature film. There is no view of the common people, there is no thought and opinion of an ordinary person who is not some deputy there. That wouldn’t hurt this movie. I wouldn’t say the film is Americanized. Of course, there is a little, but it did not bother me when watching.
In general, the film should appeal to all fans of politicized films. This genre is clearly not mine, so the film did not cause me enthusiasm, but just lovers of this genre is clearly suitable. Especially for those who are fanatics of Doctor Strangelove, or How I Learned Not to Worry and Loved the Atomic Bomb, I think they will appreciate this film.
