Fate does not turn away for a long time from those who have the courage to fight it This anime is a film adaptation of the classic novel for children “Without a family” (Sans famille, 1878) by the French novelist of the XIX century Hector Malo.
Interestingly, in addition to this anime, there are also three feature films: French, Czech and Russian. The anime itself is the first in a chain of four positions: this is anime, a series in 51 episodes, a compilation of the series, a series about the girl Remy.
Disclaimer: if you want to watch anime, which I strongly advise you not, or read a novel, you can stop here, then spoilers will go.
The trouble with this anime happened: in the USSR it was censored and reduced by 20 minutes. The network managed to find the full version only without any subtitles and a lot of Soviet. I don’t understand the brains of people who deliberately discarded the cartoon, re-voiced it in an idiotic way, the content became like a magic lantern, not a cartoon. Do not watch the Soviet version under any circumstances.
After watching the full Japanese version, I think that Sarikawa Yugo shot a very mediocre work, although his filmography is very extensive (mostly he directed anime episodes). It is difficult to understand that the action takes place in Europe, very bad voice acting (when an adult sings in the voice of a twenty-year-old), primitive jokes “Tom and Jerry”, which eat away at the timekeeping. In addition, the anime strongly resembles “Cat in Boots” stylistically, but a possible such drawing is inherent in that time. All anime is based on the principle of “from bad to worse”, the director diligently escalates a degree of despair, without explaining why he does it, how the hero grows. She just has a tear pedal and it sticks her into the floor every now and then. Many moments in anime are twisted from and to:
- The boy has a parrot and a Kapi dog. They live in a beautiful area and a decent house. Where are the animals when the family is poor? The dog Kapi was with Vitalis, and she guarded both the animals and the boy (only then they became friends). The parrot does nothing useful throughout the tape, why did it draw?
- The father is shown as a terrible one-legged monster, but he first sheltered the boy for a while (when his mother found a foundling), then went to work, lost his leg and was left without money. That's why he gives it to Vitalis. This is not explained here
- Vitalis is a good person, while observing his interests, in the anime he is simply a kind of grandfather Frost. In the book, he leads Remy away from an Englishwoman, here he noblely leaves alone.
- There was no sailing on ships with Vitalis simply because it requires money.
- The fire came from a boy, not a dog. I don't know what moved the director. From the story with Soul built a whole drama
- Sick child replaced by a healthy girl, added an extra dog
- In the book, Remi loses some friends, finds new ones, works a lot in various jobs, finds and loses families. There's nothing in the cartoon.
- The main friend of Remi is Mattia, the plot is strongly tied to him, in the anime it is not.
- In the novel, events develop from one tragedy to another, while there are respite, Remy grows, gets experience - this director could not convey in the cartoon.
- Remy had a total of 4 families, but the anime focused on one.
It's useless to describe everything. The anime is similar to the original as a Congolese transvestite to a French beauty model.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to watch a full-size anime without knowing Japanese. But in any case, it is better to go past this work and read the original. The author created about 65 novels, and became famous for children's books, and this one is one of them (for which he received the prize of the French Academy). I read the novel (the novel) and I can say it’s worth the time (and yet it’s a children’s book), it’s interesting. The director and screenwriter of this “creation” are hacks who thought that they could contribute something of their own to a very famous work. They did, and they got a puff. Soviet clowns re-voiced and cut off a dozen of the anime, which finally finished it. Thank you for this stuff, thanks to it I learned about a great children's book.
