This film is fashionable to scold, because so ordered the clown Zadornov, who shitted it before the release. They don’t have Vii in the movie, but the action takes place when there are already cars. So what? Yes, modernized, Via this rye was removed. The country has changed, I don’t see a big problem. In the rest, the film retains sufficient fidelity to the original and never once Gogol did not shame, updated elements of the plot are inserted only in non-key moments and work on the entourage, which means that they create an atmosphere, while there is a good graphics, everything is in balance, the film is moderately terrible, for example, the scene with eating a rooster, which was the last hope of salvation from evil spirits, really caught up with fear. Unlike most horror movies, there is never a black woman in this movie.
It is also impossible not to compare it with the original Soviet film. How to say it, well, the new is better a hundred times. The old film may be loved by the people of that generation, but now it is impossible to watch, in every detail you can see that the authors were funny when they worked on it. Funny every minute. It's a comedy. Eralash. This painted witch flying in a coffin with ridiculously open arms, eyes bulging, then this coffin falls with a pancake crashing like an old piano thrown out of a window, and the lid still finished it so ridiculously. Rubber devils, theater everywhere, there must be operators behind the cameras crying with laughter. So against the backdrop of all this, 2006's The Witch is very, very successful.
Thank you to the authors for the new ending. Yeah, not canonical. But I liked it. Beautiful.
The only thing I don’t understand is where the action takes place. It seems to be America, but the community shown is clearly Orthodox. Not that there is no Orthodoxy in America at all, but the setting looks contradictory and slightly unreliable.
