Shield's father is a famous producer with a quarrelsome character. He was so disgusting that his son hired an extra of failed actors to attend the funeral. There at the funeral he meets Fred Emiel, who has what Shield needs - a dream. Together they begin to conquer Hollywood. Bold ideas, innovative proposals, endless risks bring them fame. Not them, but Shield, because Jonathan is the most active of the two, and all the glory goes to him. Fred doesn’t like it, and when Shield steals his script, Emiel turns around and leaves.
Actress Georgia Lorrison is a mediocre, drunkard and whore. However, she is the daughter of a famous actor who was also famous for hussar behavior. Directors turn their noses at Georgia - despite the beautiful wrapper, the sense of it is zero. Shield realizes that talent is not the main thing in Hollywood, and he drags the actress into various films. In parallel, he falls in love with her, and then most brazenly cheats with the actress from the extras. Georgia turns around and leaves.
Writer James Lee Bartlow is talented but refuses to work in Hollywood. Shield invites the writer and his wife on vacation at his own expense in the hope of two weeks to break. Bartlow and get him to write scripts. However, the cocky wife interferes with James and Shield divorces the couple. She later died in a plane crash. In the end, Bartlow writes with Shield the best script that can bring success. However, Bartlow learns that it was Shield’s machinations that brought his wife to the grave. James turns around and leaves. Shield, by the way, also turns around and leaves the United States.
Filmmaker Harry Pebel hired Shield when he only had broken glasses. A few years later, Pebel was already working for Shield. He never turned around or left, and of the four, he's the only one who treats Jonathan well. They have a choice - to forget all the grievances and work with Shield again - because it was he who, despite all the bad things, pulled all three from the bottom of life and led them to awards and awards.
The film is good and useful. He is in the category of films that people who love movies understand, and even more understandable to those who make it. The viewer, after watching the picture, learns how useful it is to be born in the family of a famous actor, how to make a script out of the book (to cross out everything that does not look like dialogue to dogs). The viewer will repeatedly think that it is better to sell and become famous or remain honest, but not famous. And despite the fact that the film was shot in 1952, nothing has changed since then.
