Humbert Humbert is a middle-aged British novelist who is both appalled by and attracted to the vulgarity of American culture. When he comes to stay at the boarding house run by Charlotte Haze, he soon becomes obsessed with Lolita, the woman's teenaged daughter.
The film is simply a masterpiece. This film I would attribute to the early work of Kubrick, even before the release of “Odyssey”. To be honest, I liked his films during this period, but still I liked his later paintings more. Now there is a counterweight in the face of Lolita 1962 release.more
The film is simply a masterpiece. This film I would attribute to the early work of Kubrick, even before the release of “Odyssey”. To be honest, I liked his films during this period, but still I liked his later paintings more. Now there is a counterweight in the face of Lolita 1962 release. Humbert recently came from Europe and decided to settle in Charlotte Hayes’ house. But only because his attention was drawn to her wonderful daughter Lolita, to whom Miss Hayes (her husband died seven years ago) is too strict. Humbert immediately falls in love with her, and decides to keep Lolita at home by any means possible, even go to murder. But for a long time, the weather and the human factor interfere, so that he now has no more obstacles, except for... Lolita. Like I said, the film is a masterpiece. The script for the film together with Kubrick was written by our writer, the author of the novel Lolita Vladimir Nabokov. This, in my opinion, the strongest side of this film. This experience of a single hero I have not seen for a long time. And it’s not even about his inner struggle between love and reason, it’s about fighting the system that has developed around him, both at the beginning of his journey to the United States and at the end. The film shows the confrontation between the characters of young Lolita and her stepfather. He's jealous, doesn't want to let her go to shows, dates, concerts, even wants her to leave school. Lolita resists it. Thus, the film shows a kind of double protest, treacherous Lolita, who used her stepfather pretty much, and Humbert, who was clearly against the society around him, because of jealous feelings. That's why he wanted to travel so much. To the whole cast I say bravo. Especially James Mason. Directly so clearly showed the inner experiences of his hero, the struggle of consciousness, and quiet love for Lolita. Sue Lyon also played well as Lolita. So elegant, just so immediately and imbued with love for this hero of the film, even despite her insidiousness. In general, it turned out quite a masterful duo of actors. And the secondary roles are not bad. Although I always have an antipathy for heroes like Charlotte Hayes, but Shelly Winters played her just great, albeit not for long. The film is a masterpiece. Everything is perfect, from the actors to the script. But of course, a great soundtrack, which is full of the whole picture. Be sure to watch this movie, lovers of melodramas and fans of Stanley Kubrick. Despite all the negative reviews about the film, the film was successful. Original

Now, when morality and morality are getting closer to permissiveness every day, the film looks unusually puritanical. After all, in the film Humbert Humbert never even seriously kisses his stepdaughter, and given the presence of the 1997 film adaptation with Irons, the situation looks even sadder. In fact, we are in front of a very strong film, it is known that the script for the tape was written by Nabokov himself, who did not like people very much and tried to minimize contact with anyone. And it seemed to me that this film was not primarily about some terrible perversion, but the story of several people against whom circumstances arose, before whom they gave up, and more less went with the flow. Only Lolita got out of the water, and Humbert continues to carry on. Original
