Very strange movie. Shot interestingly, divided into “scenes”, and frivolous and witty transitions between them do not allow you to take too seriously what is happening on the screen.
Shot beautifully, the abundance of small details indicates a good study of the scenes. Karelian village is generally a sight, envious of people who live and work in nature, relaxing with beer on the pier
That's the problem. Describing the way of life and manners of village families, the director walks on very thin ice, in the zone where tenderness borders on malicious ridicule.
All the affection in the film is based on the incongruity of the characters - there are all sorts of misfits: a neighbor-alcoholic, his wife, a dovecote, his wife Nadyukha, their son, who went to psychics and the Soviet new age "urban" staff (the interior of her apartment deserves special attention).
Emerging conflicts provoke the heroes to posturing and sweeping gestures “on emotions” – everything is as in life, familiar. But is it necessary for such sincerity to love each other? Maybe we should show it differently.
The whole bright atmosphere in the film is obtained against the background of such an easy and ironic attitude to people entangled in their lives. Bet on emotions, irony over the general unsettledness in the heads - the film causes an extremely controversial aftertaste. Of course, this is not a joke, and the film is about good people, but some reflection is very much lacking.
