Why do you need a muse? The movie is old and I just watched it yesterday.
In general, the topic of mentoring is very interesting to me now, so the theme of the film resonated.
It was interesting for me to see how life works for a Hollywood writer, a man of free profession who works for himself. A lot of freedom, while, as in any other craft, there are a lot of their problems that may not be immediately visible. It’s just that there’s a trend right now: Be free, stop working for your uncle, work for yourself. Is it always good for you to work for yourself?
And the second thing that really intrigued me was: What is the role of the Muse in the life of the protagonist (Stephen Phillips)? After all, he, telling his wife about the process, constantly confirms that he invents everything and all his ideas, and the Muse only inspires - this is her work. What exactly is this work? Why does Steven need the Moose at all, why couldn't he come up with the same thing he invented when he had it? In the film, I saw a few moments that Muse did:
(1) Leading Stephen beyond his normal life. He lived on a rolled-out program, and "service" The muse, her quirkiness, kept pulling Stephen out of his habit.
2) Connections! Muse had a lot of connections everywhere. And connections, as I have known since Soviet times, decide everything. And Musa actively used these connections. There is an important point in the film, and in life it is very important. The muse in connections not only took, she gave everything – it is mega important when working with connections.
(3) “Resoluteness” (or activity) of the Muse. She knows what she wants and she does it. No doubt, reflection, special analysis, drawing up a business plan. For me, this is on the verge of esotericism: As a person of analysis, I hardly accept such behavior, but I really want to learn this freedom of action.
But if you watch a movie just to spend time - I doubt that this is the most interesting film for such a purpose, most likely it will seem boring to most, apparently, hence the assessment (my wife slept through half the film and I understand her). Personally, it all came together so much that I saw a lot of funny moments that I laughed at. Oh, shit, yesterday I watched and remember that I laughed a lot, but I can not remember at least one moment – that I am so amused, but I was funny (I was sober, and I do not smoke).
