The plot is based on a naive line - the boy does not study well and does not communicate with the class, but with the help of the first love begins to join the team and learn better. All right, right, with morality and Soviet ideology, but so naive that it can only believe that a first-grader, not yet familiar with school life. Characters are all harmless paws - even a school slut ... ragged and hooligans. Even a bad company, in which the main character once falls, looks very harmless. The worst thing a character can do is smoke a cigarette. In addition, the plot begins as a love story, and ends with an incomprehensible morality about the benefits of sports. This is illogical and incoherent.
Dialogue is also far from reality. It is as if they were written by a person who has never been to school or seen children. All of them are written so sweetly that any reasoning about the personality or educational problems just cringes. But that’s not the worst part of the song. My parents aren’t thrilled with Soviet children’s movies (I now understand why) and didn’t show them to me as children, so I’m more familiar with cartoons and, by extension, songs from them. Wonderful songs that are memorable and set the atmosphere of what is happening on the screen. Songs that I met in children’s films, already out of the age of the target audience, also impressed and beat nostalgia. The songs in this movie are horrible. Voices, their singing, ugly, melodies are not melodic, there is often no meaning. They do not remember (praise the gods), and as soon as you hear them, you want to turn off the movie or at least the sound. They are related to what is happening on the screen – that’s a plus. But the only one too small to pay attention to.
Maybe I’m a new generation, saturated with easily accessible content that makes this film look bland and unworthy of attention, maybe I just grew out of it (although there’s an opinion that a good movie for children is interesting to watch and adults), but I did not like it at all. Boring, naive, detached from reality and with flat characters. It is even surprising that such a wonderful director Mitta made such a bland film.
