The plot is based on the real events of 1942 that took place in the Far North. Two Soviet caravans with strategic raw materials went by the northern sea route. To intercept and destroy them in the sea came a powerful German military cruiser. However, soon he was blocked by an old icebreaker "Alexander Serebriakov" - and entered into battle with him. In an unequal battle, the ship and crew died. However, time was gained so that both caravans managed to pass into safe waters.
