Cynical Screening a book always entails some difficulties. It is rarely possible (almost impossible) to convey some lexical turns or other linguistic meanings. How can you display on the screen “leopard jump” Kisa Vorobyaninov? In addition, each person has his own images when reading. Here in the TV series "Master and Margarita" actor Abdulov plays wonderfully, but at the same time I personally do not like the image of Azazello he created - because I read the book several times and imagined this red henchman completely different.
What is good about Marienhof's novel "Cynics"? It is a syllable that absolutely cannot be reproduced by film methods. It is like translating poetry from one language into another, either meaning is lost or the verse form is lost. The director and screenwriter could not but know this, so the reasons for the film adaptation are completely different.
The film was shot in 1991, the seventh and final year of perestroika. Some liberalization took place even before that - the works of Bulgakov and Solzhenitsyn were allowed to be published, but in the last years of Soviet power the most critical works of art came out. In fact, the novel “Cynics” is the quintessence of everyday ignorance of the intellectuals of the causes of the revolution. The hero of the book cannot accept the Soviet government just because they banned the sale of ice cream. He can’t do anything – it is decided by the lovers of his strange wife.
The film was shot hastily. Dapkuna no, the film is chewed, the editing is crooked, the direction is extremely weak. As a result, the film was held in the category of “cheap ideological trash” completely unnoticed.
