Watch out, spoilers! —----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------- In 1987, the director Viktor Buturlin filmed the film “The Gardener”, which then went unnoticed by me, but recently I saw it at the Kinorium, moreover, with a high assessment of a person I know (Andrey Kostikov) and decided to see, not the least role in this decision was played by the fact that it starred the Borisov brothers. In stylistics, the film is quite typical for that time - this is not a very detailed story about one person, hereditary gardener Alexey Glazov (Oleg Borisov), who is trying to preserve the remains of the once huge collective farm apple orchard, the creation of which his ancestors are involved in more than one generation. He lives alone, does not maintain special contacts with children, they are already different, live in the city, they have completely different interests and a different life. In the spirit of that time, the collective farm is ordered to repurpose its production, apples are no longer of interest to anyone, it is necessary to build a huge poultry complex, it is necessary to feed the people. On this soil, the gardener has disagreements with the leadership of the collective farm, and in general, those who support it are almost gone, it is only Kolya’s uncle (Lev Borisov) and mute teenager Sanka. And only images from the past, where he meets people dear to him who have already passed into the other world, accompany him. There are also despicable detractors who write a denunciation against him that he allegedly sells cuttings from a kolkhoz garden that does not belong to him, profiting from this. Investigators, however, find out that he spent more money on sending cuttings than he was sent, so the case fell apart. And now comes the new chairman of the collective farm, a gardener by training, who promises him a bright future, will he fulfill his promise? The film turned out to be really good, shot in a very simple and restrained manner, the life of one person who does not very fit into the environment. The actors are good, the images are authentic.
