In 1808, a detachment of Napoleon’s army under the command of the Swiss mercenary Crutter Grotz came from Barcelona to punish the villagers who refused to pay taxes in favor of the French. Near the town of Bruch, he was shattered, ambushed by local residents. Two weeks later, the French sent an army against the Catalan partisans, which met in a bloody battle with the militia. Together with their fathers, their children took part in the battle, who, by beating their drums, created the illusion that there are several times more Catalan fighters than in reality.
