The soldier Kuzma returns from service to his native village. Seeing that Kuzma returned home, people immediately climbed out into the street from their shelters: who from the well, who else from where. They explained to the soldier that the Serpent Gorynych had come here to visit: he would fly, the people would scare, the hut would burn, the livestock would devour and fly away. It does not give life to poor farmers.

Fighting Universal Evil
They complained about the Serpent Gorynych to the king. The autocrat sent an army of horseback, the villagers were glad: they will discourage the dashing horsemen of the despotate to frighten people, and burn villages. Only for a short time the people rejoiced: instead of protecting the villagers, the tsar’s army robbed them to the thread, took away all the good, emptied the barns, took the last cattle with them. And then they say, “Prepare a richer course, the king will soon present himself.”

Only the peasants told their story, and they had to hide again, because the Serpent Gorynych flew back. The Serpent saw the soldier and demanded a deed, and the soldier answered, saying, there was nothing left - the king took everything. And then the autocrat with his own guard came.

Gorynych attacked the guard of the tsar, dealt with all, but he did not calculate the strength and ran out. There was a dispute over who owned the village. The soldier offered the following solution: whoever hangs more, he takes the village for himself. Gorynych, of course, whistled so much that he raised the horses with his whistle into the air. It was the king's turn to whistle. Kuzma suggested that the Snake put on blindfolds over his eyes, said that he feared that Gorynych’s eyes would not get out of the orbits from the king’s whistle. And he struck the Snake with a club.

Fighting together
As a result, they decided to delimit the land: on one side of the border there will be the land of the king, on the other - the Serpent Gorynych. Slyly made the Snake soldier into the plow to harness himself, and made the king a plowman. They reached the sea and decided to take a break. Former voivode, and now cashwar just on the table and prepared food. They ate, the king and the Serpent got drunk, and the soldier took and asked if he could catch fish in the sea to serve caviar on the table. The opponents did not want to give each other the whole sea and rushed to divide it, and drowned.

That's how the cunning soldier Kuzma villagers saved from the royal greed and insatiable Serpent Gorynych.
