The story begins in 1899, during the so-called rubber revolution, when Acre was the only region of latex mining. Fleeing from the drought that has engulfed the northeastern regions, Bashtiao and his family come to Acre in hopes of a better future. The Bashtiao family is wife Angelina and two children, daughter Delzuite and son Bento.
