Black and White World A rather heavy black and white documentary dedicated to the accident at the Mayak nuclear plant in 1957. Not even the accident itself, but the people who live in the contaminated area there. Our simple, ordinary people who talk on camera about their simple and ordinary difficult life. No voiceover speech, no narratorial conclusions and moralizing, only stories of local residents.
The special atmosphere of the film, of course, is given by the monochrome tones of the surrounding strikingly shown landscapes, evoking hopeless inner sadness from what is happening, from the conditions in which people live. And I would like to say about the inner strength and power of people, but you wonder whether this strength, when people continue to live in their despair ... and you can not find the answer, I could not find it.
The merits of the film include the already mentioned silence of the author, who does not force the viewer to follow his conclusions, but to see in the film his own, inner. This is good, it awakens intimate emotional vibrations.
In general, I repeat, the film is not easy – both compositionally and substantively, it is worth watching only under a certain mood.
