Very feminist film (and that good) I went to the premiere of the film ' Without Me' to the cinema (which in itself is a significant event, the last time in the movie I was about a year ago). I usually watch movies at home, on a laptop, with headphones, with the ability to pause (and this is all very important to me). But I waited for this film and went to it.
Overall: I liked it. This is a rather unusual film for Russian filmmaking. First, two main characters, one of which - '
strong woman' (completely stunning new image of Polina Maksimova), which the filmmakers are not trying ' to re-educate' and remake. She wears a short haircut, swears, rides a motorcycle and it is presented as absolutely normal (no one says that it is mole ' unfeminine' and in general ' when married and children'). This is one of the first amazing moments.
The second - despite the fact that this is 'melodrama', a significant place is occupied by the story about friendship (about hetero-love, too, there is where without it). Two women, at the beginning of the journey are in the position of “enemies” and “enemies” 39, eventually get closer and become friends. Ideally, I wanted the movie to end with a happy couple, but... This is Russia, it is only possible to dream about this (at least for now, I hope the situation will improve in the future).
The film also has a feminist agenda. Two main characters, along the way they meet several characters, mostly also women. Absolutely stunning (and I think, for Russia, partly provocative) phrases like: '
No one, no man in the world can forbid me anything' or '
Don't dare kill yourself because of some man' and the story about how two women shook (there is such a word? ' got married' it seems that sisters are worse?) through a man, and then kicked him out: 'What the hell do we need? '
(And there is also a track of Zemfira, which fits very organically into the film)
In the end, I saw a beautiful story about how to live without 'man', the story of friendship and sisterhood, the story of pain that can be overcome together. Honestly, the creators would have added a little more queerness to the film, made a pair of Kira and Xiushi at the end, and this film would have taken an honorable place in my collection of best films. But we have what we have, and therefore I call ' Without me' just good movies.
