The directorial debut of Beau Burnham, who, as it turns out, is a famous stand-up comedian, dedicated to the growing up of a teenage girl Kayla, graduating from high school, the film is called “Eighth Grade”, 2018. For the debut, the film is very good and very relevant. Kayla is raised by a single father, as I understand it, brings up from infancy, when his mother died, so they live together. I must say, the girl and her father are very lucky - he is a very delicate, kind and understanding father and loves his daughter very much, who goes through the inevitably difficult period through which everyone goes - this is adolescence. He does not bother her, although she often humiliates him and dismisses him. Kayla, apparently, the girl is not stupid, but teenage complexes did not bypass her side. On the Internet, she very bravely and quite intelligently leads her own video blog just on the topic of overcoming problems associated with growing up, and in life she is very complex, stiff behaves and constantly feels out of place girl, awkwardly slouching, fat, with problematic teenage skin. We see a rather short period of her life, but already during this time in her life there will be some changes, and the girl will gradually begin to overcome her complexes. Good performers of the main roles - father (Josh Hamilton) and Kayla (Alsie Fisher).
