The film “Traitor”, directed by Marco Belocchio, 2019, about the famous mafioso Tommaso Bouchetta, who, having previously been subjected to terrible torture in a Brazilian prison, where he served 4 years, and after attempting suicide, eventually agreed to cooperate with justice, he was extradited to Italy, where he began to testify and extradited a huge number of mafia members (about 400). They committed treachery between clans, passing from one clan to another, while ruthlessly killing relatives and children of former friends. Moreover, although it was Bouchetta who violated the omerta, he considered himself a man of honor, as they called themselves, even took an oath, and considered the others to be violating the code of honor, which he constantly emphasized in his testimony. And another nuance - he agreed to cooperate with only one magistrate - Giovanni Falcone, at first only he gave all the testimony. The mafia, of course, did not sit idly by, they dealt with both Falcone and Borsellino. But Bouchetta continued to cooperate, followed by others. The film, like many Italian films about the mafia, does not carry the somewhat adventure shade that is characteristic of American films on this topic, it is acutely social, all the characters have real prototypes. The trial, which took place in a hangar specially built for him, was also reproduced, since no room could accommodate the number of people involved in this process.
