Huguenots is a monumental canvas about several doomed love stories against the backdrop of the massacre on Bartholomew’s Night. The opera premiered at the Paris Opera, then celebrated its centenary in 1936 and after more than a thousand performances was removed from the repertoire and sent to the archives of the Palais Garnier. Removing her from oblivion, director Andreas Kriegenburg places the eternal conflict between love and religion in a timeless space where costumes seem even more lush and the scarlet blood of the victims even more vivid.
