Perhaps this thriller is about the "religious nurse." Maude allows for several interpretations. I would prefer not to multiply entities unnecessarily and not to assume that supernatural forces are at work in the film. It is best to look at Maud as a girl with mental problems. With a religious interpretation, everything is more complicated: the pride of the girl pulls her not at all to the religious pole, where, as it seems to her, she already lives surrounded by divine love - and before us is a film about the spiritual blindness of a lonely person in its extreme manifestations, which is painful enough to look at. In any interpretation, the world around the girl looks sinister and hopeless place, as if the director had decided in advance not to give Maud a single chance for salvation, but to focus on the fact of false perception of reality and only on it, forgetting about Maud as the subject of this perception, having memory, past, parents, etc. Looking from the inside, from the inner world of Maud in this case does not allow you to reveal the main character, and the whole film can be compared to walking on the heels of a dark suspicious figure, whose face you will never see.
