This film can be appreciated without two pitfalls. 1. Judge as an independent work, not comparing with the famous HBO series. 2. Do not look for how accurately the film depicts the brilliant gratifying Soviet homeland / damn prison of peoples. Putting all this out of my mind, let’s ask a simple question: what is the film about? There's no answer. Because nothing. The creators had a goal: to shoot something about Chernobyl. That's it. We took a standard serial story about love and filmed against the background of the disaster. The film is not about Chernobyl. In focus one episode from the events of 1986. It’s not about love or even tragedy. But there's narcissism. Bottom line: emptiness. At the same time, the film has a lot of repeatedly noted shortcomings: from indiscriminate muttering in dialogue, to absurdities with radioactive radiation.
