Italian mini-series "Life Promised" / La vita promessa, 2018, directed by Rikki Toniazzi (son of the famous Ugo Toniazzi). This is such a typically Italian rather heartbreaking drama about one family from Sicily, forced to flee to America from the persecution of one at first just a bandit, then a mafioso, who believed in the fairy tale that everything is right there - and everyone has rights, and work, and the police fight for compliance with the law and other charms. As you understand, it was (and is) there, as it is everywhere, of course, with the signs of local realities. So hopes for a very good life are justified only by some family members, tragedies follow family members and others just on their heels, there is more that having moved to America and formed their diaspora there, the Italians brought with them their "traditions", far from always harmless and quite mafia. The main character is the mother of the Carmel family (Luisa Ranieri), a very strong-willed and powerful woman, fighting for the preservation of her family, however, it does not always work for her and even loving family members rebel against her methods. She was also very lucky that she met one person - Signor Amedeo Ferri (Thomas Trabacchi), whom she accidentally met on the ship on which they sailed to America, which will play literally the role of a good angel for her and their whole family, such an absolutely idealistic image, although, who knows, maybe in the 20s of the last century, such people also met even among the stock exchangers, which he was. The plot lines are a little too straightforward - it is only necessary for someone to relax, lie, etc., as a tragedy necessarily happens, although sometimes it really happens in life. In Italy, this series was very popular.
