Long awaited my viewing of the film “Glengarry Glen Ross” (Americans) / Glengarry Glen Ross, 1992, directed by James Foley, in the film a wonderful cast – Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Jonathan Price, this, in fact, explained my interest in him. By the way, there are no female characters in the film, women are only present in conversations. The film is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Mamet and is considered one of the best for its time. The action takes place in a small branch of the company, there are only 4 employees and a manager engaged in the sale of land, they are doing quite poorly, because those potential customers, which the manager has provided sellers, are not going, and often simply are not able to buy something, especially land. To increase sales, a very aggressive coach is sent to the company (he was not in the play, he was specially introduced into the film) to motivate the team, he brings with him a stack of new “tricks” that the manager locks in his desk drawer. Coach behaves extremely aggressively and will read to them, if they “do not improve”, an early dismissal – the one who takes the first place will get a Cadillac, for the second place only a set of knives is promised, and the other two will be fired. At this "performance" there are three of them, the fourth, and for that day the most successful, handles in the restaurant of a potential client. People, of course, are extremely upset with this approach, despite the terrible weather, they go to customers. Two of them end up talking about how they could steal the so-called tips and sell them to a competitor who doesn’t have to go far, his office across the street. But the person who is offered to steal them refuses to do so, but when they come to the office the next day, they see that someone did it. The police are there, calling them in alternately for questioning. It will not take much time, the one who did this himself admits this to the manager, trying not for the first time to bribe him, but he does not succeed. In between, we also see the supposedly successful sales made by two workers collapsing. The end is open, but the manager hopes that whoever stole will go to prison, although he did it almost out of despair - his daughter is in the hospital, and he has nothing to pay for it. The film, as we can see, is not eventful, it is purely colloquial, and conversations abound in profanity, the actors among themselves called it "Death of a Fuckin' Salesman", their mate, of course, is not as diverse as Russian, but the second word there sounds at every step. Thanks to the good cast, the film looks good, they play really well. So if anyone is interested in looking at them, you can do it.
