American director Todd Field was known to me from two films - In the Bedroom, 2001, and Little Children, 2006, I watched them for a long time, then I liked both films, since he did not make films, like flashed some series. And then 16 years later, he decided to make a film again, and it's quite serious, it's Tar/Tár, 2022, which I saw.
The main character of the film Linda Tar (Kate Blanchett) has achieved a lot in this life, she works as a conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, writes music, published a biographical book, teaches conductorship at the Juilliard School in New York, she is invited to all sorts of interviews. In addition, she seems to fit well into the modern agenda, being an open lesbian, married to the first violin of her orchestra and raising a daughter with her, in appearance, most likely adopted. She feels very happy with herself. But suddenly something starts to glittle in this beautiful picture. We see that her assistant does not respect her very much, judging by the emails about her that she sends, but tolerates in the hope of getting a position of assistant conductor. Suddenly, a tragic thing happens - her former student, literally her idolizer, committed suicide, which she pushed away because of her allegedly mental abnormalities. One clings to another, her other actions begin to creep out into the light of God, some things we see ourselves - in order to protect her daughter, she threatens a girl who bullies her at school, with words that clearly speak not of good temper. Here, a new cellist appears in the orchestra - a Russian girl Olga, to whom she begins to clearly feel attraction, causing the jealousy of her partner. She promotes her in every possible way, the girl is actually talented, but she clearly does not respond to her reciprocity, although she enjoys her favor. What is characteristic is that a girl with a conservative education, although she looks cute and smiley, but even does not really know how to eat in a restaurant and use cutlery, well, Russian, what can you take from her. And then everything fell all at once, she suffers a complete collapse, at the end she performs somewhere in Asia, conducting a rather strange piece for a very strange audience. As her brother said when she arrived briefly in her native country, "You don't know where you came from or where you're going."
I liked the film, Cate Blanchett played the main role, she is always good.
