At first it seems that this is the best film by M. Night Shyamalan. But no. Well, almost. . In the country house where a gay couple and their adopted daughter live, four strange strangers break in and claim that they are called to stop the Apocalypse. To do this, someone from a non-traditional family must make a sacrifice, otherwise all of humanity is doomed to perish. . .
The first impression immediately after watching - finally my beloved Shyamalan after 8 years (and I consider the 2015 "Visit" more a success than not) made a great movie. As you know, the first impression is the right one. But then, after some thought and a couple of YouTube reviews, you realize the director screwed up a lot.
Perhaps it is the fault of two more people, together with whom Shyamalan wrote the script - the script sometimes just cracks at the seams. It is noteworthy that this is an adaptation of the novel by American writer Paul Tremblay, which was praised by Stephen King himself, and in 2019 the book received the Bram Stoker Award (King, by the way, became its laureate 15 times). In general, the source is powerful and the main, the most exciting part of the film, apparently, shot on it. But the ending, as far as I understand, is already done quite freely, which causes fair misunderstanding and indignation of the audience.
But the film is so great that, again, you just don’t pay attention to the plot blunders (you haven’t seen Dave Batista like this one here yet). I think this is a rare case when even those who cannot stand Shyamalan’s work will watch his new film if not with pleasure, then at least with interest. I love this director very much, so I really enjoyed it. It's a very controversial movie, but it's still a good movie.
