“The tragedy of humanism as an idea is that in practice, because of the abstract aims that humanism expresses, it cannot motivate people to follow its ideals. Humanism always loses in the fight against fanatical evil forces and ideas that are based on hatred and destruction, because these ideas are more material, and therefore such an ideology is more attractive to the dark uneducated masses.
The film is based on Zweig’s only completed book, Impatience of the Heart.
I read the book. So Bill Augusta (winner of the Oscars and two Palm Branches in Cannes) was my hope.
It turned out very well. Both intonation and psychology - the book is revealed in the film. And the entourage, scenery, acting work of all without exception and the essence of humanistic notes and “anti-human message”, i.e. preserved the theme of war and its consequences.
“It is a pity that one cannot destroy all stupidity and cruelty in one fell swoop without destroying a person. ? The Strugatsky brothers.
I recommend watching.
