Sergio Guatakira Sarmiento suffered from his second name as a child, which gave away his Indian, that is, "barbaric" roots. But other than that, he had little connection to the Kakua Indian tribe from which his family originated. Sarmiento, a young intellectual from Belgium, travels to the Amazon jungle to his distant kin to understand what it means to be an Indian today.
