A young actor and aspiring director Daniel Colomb, returning after many years of wandering around the world in Montreal, receives an offer to stage a traditional play “The Passion of the Christ” for parishioners of the Catholic Church, the rector of which wanted to update it a little, as the interest of parishioners began to fade. Daniel rewrites the play, invites four similar little-known actors, interrupted by random earnings, who, although not immediately, but imbued with his ideas. When the play is finished and performed not in the hall, but in the open air, it turns out that it has a completely revisionist character in relation to the events described in the Gospels, even in the question of the origin of Christ. Nevertheless, the performance is a great success with audiences and critics, which cannot be said about the church authorities, who cannot survive such a free treatment of writing. The story becomes quite dramatic. The director would not be himself if he did not show everything that is happening in his inherent satirical manner, although in some places melodramatic notes break through. The actor's ensemble was successful, the film was also well shot.
