After watching, what I want to note first of all, is the work of production artists Paul Bertrand, Mayo, Lucilla Mussini. A huge titanic work has been done to recreate the era.
Regarding the novel, I recommend reading Zola’s novel “The Trap” before viewing, in order to have an idea of the time and customs ... that reigned there. Screenwriters Jean Oranche and Pierre Bost preserved the skeleton and the most important moments and generally treated the original source with care. So it was interesting to watch. I looked in the original, so atmospheric I saw all the nuances with my first breath.
As for the acting work, two people stand out here, Maria Schell and Francois Perrier, they are the most accurate to their characters and reflect both the form and structure and artistic homogeneity of the novel. As Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights put it: “A rational man must be content with the society he is.”
It is a very French and symbolic film.
Such films, apart from the highest rating, nothing will be put. The aftertaste is gorgeous.
