During the WWII, propaganda films were shot, including, in particular, the film by American director William Wyler “Mrs. Miniver” / Mrs. Miniver, 1942, based on the book of the same name by Jen Strater. I must say that despite the smoothness of the intonations, terrible sentimentality and looking rather naive circumstances and events, the film during the release was a huge success, obviously during the war such films were in demand, on what is happening at the front in fact, ordinary people were just afraid to watch, and so it seems not too scary, but at the same time somewhere background and heroism can be seen (there and Dunkirk, and the service of the eldest son in the Air Force, and the death of some characters). I read that after getting to the front (Wyler, having finished shooting the film, enlisted in the army), Wyler realized how far from reality what was depicted in the film was. The action takes place in some English suburb, where lives a very friendly and loving Miniver family, his wife is a housewife, whose main entertainment is the purchase of different outfits and hats, his husband is an architect buying a new car, two young children live with them - a son and a daughter, they also have a student son, who is studying at the university. By chance, they meet the granddaughter of a local aristocrat, with whom the son quickly falls in love, and she falls in love with him, and then suddenly a war begins. The war, of course, is shown, very peculiar (compared to English films about that period, there is no such thing there), they are bombed, and they arrange competitions for the best flower grown in their garden, there are crowded services in a semi-bombed temple. At the same time, the main character is always in neat makeup and even with eyelashes glued, her self-control can also be envied. Come on, let's put it down to the genre. In principle, for its genre and for that time, given that the film was shot by an American, the film is really good, in two receptions (large timekeeping) I watched it, good actors. The film received 6 Oscars and several more nominations, all were delighted.
