I can’t say that I’m a fan of Tom Tykwer’s films, I watched one, I didn’t make a special impression (“Hologram for the King”), but I liked the short film included in the almanacs “Paris, I Love You”, called “Truth”. And then, by chance, somewhere caught the eye of one of his first films, which was praised by one of my film friends, and I decided to watch it, this is the film Winterschläfer, made by him in 1997. The film is not very exciting, but it is very interesting. The action takes place somewhere in an alpine village in Bavaria. Fate brings several characters together in very ornate ways, which they themselves do not suspect, in the end there is also a question about their degree of guilt in the events that occurred. The two main characters - nurse Laura and translator Rebecca - live in the house of Laura's grandmother, who inherited him. Rebecca has a rather passionate lover Marco, she is also a passionate girl who somehow comes to her in a new car, which is thoughtlessly left with an open door and keys in the ignition lock, dragged by an impatient Rebecca into the house. Film mechanic Renee at this time, being pretty undershoof, passes by the house, sees the car, for some reason takes pictures of both her and sex lovers, then sits in it and races along the roads. Farmer Theo gets sick horse, which he is going to take to the veterinarian, the horse is very worried about his daughter, who sneaks into the van with the horse. On the road, Theo, trying to answer the call of his sons, reaching for a walkie-talkie and moving to an oncoming one, suddenly sees a rushing car in front of him, sharply turns sideways so as not to crash into it, the car and van turn over, and the oncoming car crashes into a deep snowdrift. Theo can not get out of the car, Renee manages to get out of the window, he approaches the car Theo, but he does not even think to help him, he calmly leaves. Theo will help another person get out, near the van he discovers his daughter, who has suffered severe injuries, she is taken to the hospital, where after the operation she falls into a coma. Laura, who plays in an amateur play, accidentally meets Rene, they begin to date, after a while he tells her about his injury, because of which he has problems with short-term memory, so he takes pictures. And here we are, watching events unfold. The police, who have been told by Theo that there was a second car and are not blowing their shoulders to try to find it, are not looking for Marco's car, who reported the theft. Theo, after the death of his daughter, is obsessed with finding the one he believes is responsible for the accident. And we see that a certain secret (primarily in Marco’s) becomes clear to us (but not to Rebecca). The end is tragic. The question, of course, is whether that person was alone guilty and punished or whether they could share the blame among themselves. I won't reveal the intrigue. It’s a good movie, I don’t regret watching it.
