The atmosphere of this film is fine. The America of the future, drowning in drugs, the government that fights it, and the corporations that use it to line their pockets. It all looks very interesting. The plot of the film is also interesting - a secret agent is introduced into the society of drug addicts to find the supplier. However, the film itself is terribly boring. How did a film with such a good literary background come out so boring? The answer is simple: it's all about the script. Dialogue and action are devoid of emotions, there is no intrigue, as many as two unexpected turns, but both are at the very end and do not affect the overall impression of the film. There are many moments that, if placed correctly, would make the viewer gasp, but instead of exacerbating these moments, the script, on the contrary, smooths them out. As a result, the narrative becomes too calm, and this is not at all what you would expect from a film where Philip Dick is listed among the writers.
Individual words deserve visual design. It is quite unusual, pleasing to the eye and creates a great atmosphere of rotting west. It is not clear what was the point of making a movie and then redrawing it into animation, when you could leave it as a film. This was probably the director’s intention.
Overall, the film disappointed me. Not because he's bad, not at all. It just didn’t cope with its main task – did not cause any emotions, even negative ones. And so
