The British dramatic comedy Educating Rita (1983), directed by Lewis Gilbert, might have resembled Pygmalion, but did not. Professor Frank Bryant (Michael Kane) comes to the correspondence course hairdresser Susan White (Julie Walters), who decided to call herself Rita, she is not satisfied with her life and wants to find herself before having a child, which her husband so craves. Bryant teaches literature at the university, his work has long since sobbed, he is divorced from his wife, lives with a girl working at the university, but she cheats on him, besides he drinks heavily, being drunk even at lectures. Bryant doesn’t really believe he can teach Susan anything, but she’s a girl who is determined and determined. Throughout the film, we observe the changes that occur in Susan, she really changes greatly under the influence of these activities, her surroundings change, her husband abandons her, she is forced to rent a house, getting into a partner for renting a girl named Trish, a great lover of poetry, classical music and healthy eating, who, it turns out, is very unhappy with her life and once again tries to commit suicide. At first, avoiding the student environment, then Susan gets closer to them, taking something from them. But not everything is so simple in this life, yes, she is developing strongly in the field of literature, now she already knows how to write essays, but in the end she understands that changes in life do not get rid of life problems and she will have to choose her own way of life. The professor almost derails his life, drinking after the departure of his girlfriend, but this time he is not expelled, and sent on a two-year business trip to Australia. It is good that the plot did not slide to the banal love story, which was asked for in the plot, but the authors were able to avoid this. An excellent duet of the main roles.
