Personal puzzle This is Lynch’s first film and the first of his filmography for me that I understood immediately. The legendary “Mulholland Drive” I had to revise in order to understand and evaluate the idea of the director. While everyone understands Lynch’s movies in their own way, it’s what makes the viewer think.
Obviously, this is a very personal film of his. It's probably easier to start creating, doing something very intimate, something that's familiar to you. Through the gloomy surrealism, a very life situation can be seen: a young couple is forced to get married after they have a child, they begin to live together and this newborn child begins to drive insane the already fragile relationships and vulnerable natures of parents. The way they experience it and the difficulties this film has to deal with, not in direct text (it would be too boring, because many people go through it), but in the unique language of Lynch’s narrative. Henry’s thoughts about heaven and God are truly amazing, but everyone knows that our own head harbors those surprises and symbols.
