A good film by the Belgian director Jaco Van Dormel “The Eighth Day”, he shot in 1996. The main roles are the wonderful Frenchman Daniel Otoy and the Belgian actor Pascal Duquenn, who received for their roles for two the prize for best actor at the Cannes festival in 1996. The main character of the film Harry is a successful business consultant, mired in his work on advising sellers so much that he lost his family, his wife and children left him, he tries to establish relations with them, but completely unsuccessfully, he does not succeed, he does not need his formula for successful sales, which works everywhere, but not here. Returning home after another unsuccessful attempt, he encounters on the road with Georges, who escaped from the boarding school for people with mental disorders, where he was placed by his family, as well as some other patients with Down syndrome, because in everyday life they were too uncomfortable and burdensome for them. Initial contacts between them are neither pleasant nor successful, Harry tries to get rid of him by all available means, but so far without success. Georges, with the inherent naivety and sincerity of such people, attaches himself to him and begins to hope in his heart for a miracle - that Harry will take him away, he longs for his dead mother - the only person who loved him, he is looking for a life support - as it is available to his worldview. But life isn't that simple. We see two worlds - our world, i.e., the world of ordinary people, and the world of other people - not like us, in something inept and clumsy, with uncontrollable reactions, with their vision of the world, but these people are sincere themselves and feel kindness and sincerity in others, in their own kindness and directness, like children, we know this world poorly, but it is, and in some ways it is more honest, simpler and better than our world. The film is really touching, I recommend watching.
