The film takes place at the end of World War II. A young woman, Kata, on her way back from a movie theater, was stopped by a man who said she could not go home because she was being searched because her husband was a member of the Resistance, so she should go to the hospital to see a doctor who would provide her with new documents and tell her where to go. In the hospital, she was given new documents, retrieved the old ones, provided with a legend about who she should now be and sent to live with a man named Janos as his wife. He rents a room with an elderly couple whose son was drafted into the army. At first, Kata is terribly worried about both her husband and her daughter, whom she and her husband sent to the village, relations with Janos develop very tense, he is afraid of everything, does not trust anyone (as we learn later, he had a negative experience when he faced betrayal), including her. But then, despite all the circumstances, Kata and Janos will reach out to each other and even love each other, but I am afraid that they will not find happiness, although the end is open. They're still alive, at least, but it hurts when you watch the final footage. The film is shot in the inherent manner of Szabo, he is quite observant and knows people well, so you believe him, the actors are also busy with good ones. I liked the movie.
