I thought I'd seen all of Fellini's movies, and there were a few films I hadn't seen, and one of them was Il bidone, which he made in 1955. In Italy, of course, made a lot of films about scammers, including those years, but this one is somewhat different from them. At first, we see a gang of small crooks engaged in what is called “divorce”, which almost immediately causes a negative attitude towards them, is that they are not breeding so much rich people who really have money, but who, apparently, are not as credulous as their “client”, these are mostly people from whom they completely shamelessly take the last money. Leads the gang Augusto (Broderick Crawford), who in his 48 years is considered an old man, help him Picasso (Richard Bayshart) and Roberto (Franco Fabrizi). They are very different, Augusto and Roberto are single, but Picasso has a family that he loves very much and, when he realizes that his wife (played by Juliet Mazina) suspects that he has messed with scammers, and may abandon him, he eventually abandons this “craft”. Augusto has an 18-year-old daughter, with whom he occasionally meets, he seems to even suffer from his loneliness, but just during one such meeting and comes across, in the cinema he recognizes one of the people whom he deceived, the daughter with horror sees who her father really is. After leaving prison, he does not give up his occupation, but organizes a new gang, but everything in the world comes to an end, and this time very sad, although it would seem that he even experienced some remorse when they divorced a family in which one of the daughters was paralyzed. I can’t say that the film is very outstanding, but it’s not bad, the actors play well and Fellini is Fellini, he made good films.
