Cartoon based on the autobiographical graphic novel of the French writer, artist and director of Iranian origin Marjan Satrapi “Persepolis”, which she shot with Vincent Paronno in 2007. We see how from a little naive girl who believes in God, in the Shah, despite the fact that she grows up in a family of left-wing views, a woman grows up who cannot accept what is happening in her homeland, which she eventually leaves completely. Having gone through many trials – from the persecution and execution of family members and acquaintances, the war, the formation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard regime, being sent by her parents to Vienna, where she will study at the lyceum, take the first steps in the field of feelings that will be unsuccessful for her, she will return to Tehran, where after emerging from the depression she will go to university and even get married. Studying at the university will also be held under the auspices of Islam, which is saturated there, the marriage will be unsuccessful, and she will go, this time to France, where she currently lives. The film makes a strong impression – and the story of the author’s life, and the visual decision. I once watched another film that Satrapi made with Paronno in 2011, Chicken with Prune, which I really liked, perhaps even more than this film, but it was not an animated film, although it was also made from her comic book.
