Millions of families in the Soviet Union were affected in one way or another by this dramatic process, as a result of which a stratum of strong rural owners was destroyed as a class. The country was building a new life – “great construction sites of the century” like Magnitka or Gorky Automobile Plant, the USSR was turning from an agrarian power into an industrial one. But the price paid by the citizens was extremely high.
