Zorro falls in love with a beautiful young widow, Esmeralda Sánchez de Moncada. The story arc focuses on mysteries concerning Esmeralda's long-lost mother and the man whose atrocities changed Diego's life forever. Their resolution threatens to shake the Spanish Empire.
