Space Twilight The spectacular trailer, the pretentious title and the Wachowskis, whose previous film was the magnificent “Cloud Atlas”, made “Jupiter Ascent” one of the most anticipated films of 2015. I can’t say I didn’t like the movie at all. It has a couple of funny moments, and the green screen painted very beautifully, but the script part leaves much to be desired.
In almost every facet of the film, a certain rotten crept in. The least damaged was the visual part. There is nothing unusual, outstanding, forcing you to look at the screen, opening your mouth with delight, neither in camera work nor in computer graphics. Spaceships and other planets are hard to surprise, but you can watch it in 3D on a big screen. You can even get pleasure from it, if you do not pay attention to all sorts of small shortcomings, such as buildings that collapse for no apparent reason, objects that fall against the laws of physics, or the hairstyle of the main character, which, in the best traditions of advertising hair styling products, remains motionless even if a hurricane rages around.
Much more upsetting is the script of the film. Filling the universe with warring corporations and powerful families, he, instead of growing on this fertile soil good fiction in the spirit of “Dune”, gives a simple story about Cinderella, which also smells of “Twilight”. Well, how not to remember this saga, looking at the sharp ears and wooden face of Channing Tatum, whose hero is too cool for emotions. As in “Twilight”, this cool werewolf guy has an infantile girlfriend in love with him, which, unfortunately, is the main character.
The infantilism of the main character is the main problem of the whole film. The lack of laws of physics for Hollywood products is commonplace. Good fiction is a rare thing in cinema, and its absence is understandable. However, it is only necessary to relax and just enjoy the 3D spectacle, as this girl with an overly pretentious name "Jupiter" throws out such stupidity that there are serious doubts about her psychological health. She trusts everyone and everyone, even after she has been betrayed several times; she marries the first person she meets, without bothering to learn better the future husband and the laws of the new world for her; and in the end, after all that has happened to her, she completely returns to her communal room to clean the toilets, as she did in the beginning. This behavior could be understood if the heroine was 4 years old, but she is already an adult aunt! A serious adult aunt who behaves like a little naive child.
In any film, the most important thing is the story he tells. In "Jupiter Ascent," history is the weakest point. It’s not good fiction, it’s an insult to the genre. A nice story about Cinderella from her, too, will not work - the stupidity of the main character interferes. Even the story of the Chosen One, which is so popular today, it is difficult to call it, because the greatest feat of this Chosen One will be her return to her native toilets. Solid chewing of snot, which even a fantastic entourage does not make interesting.
