"The Extra Man" (translated as "The Presumptuous Man") is the first film by Paolo Sorrentino, shot by him in 2001, in which he first shot the actor who will become his permanent actor - Tony Servillo. In this film, he tries out his melancholy style. Two very different heroes - full namesakes named Antonio Pisapia - lead their completely different lives, leading them to complete life collapse. The first - Tony Pisapia - once a very popular pop singer, financially successful, narcissistic womanizer and cocaine addict, lets once again his life derailed, having slept high with a minor, it turns out that no one needs such a ruined reputation (the case takes place in 1980) and revels from idleness, which somewhat changes him. The second is Antonio Pisapia, a successful and honest footballer who has ambitions for the future and even a coach’s license, who preserves his reputation for this, after an injury, no one, including his own wife, is needed, but stupidly continues to believe that he will still be taken as promised. But alas... Once they accidentally collide in life and meet glances. I can’t say that I liked the film very much, it’s not bad, of course, but there are claims to both the script and the director’s work, and for Tony Servillo this is not the best role, but taking into account that for the director this debut, I tried not to assess too strictly, especially since in the future his films have acquired all the features of his already formed own style.
