Happy Valley is a dark, funny, multi-layered thriller revolving around the personal and professional life of Catherine, a dedicated, experienced, hard-working copper. She is also a bereaved mother who looks after her orphaned grandchild.
An amazingly enjoyable series. I really liked it. I liked the kindness, justice, a clear understanding of the principles of the main character. I was worried about the heroes of each series. Great atmosphere.
The British, of course, know how to shoot this kind of series, without falling into the worn-out cliches, although there is nothing particularly ingenious in this, for example, series. The British, of course, know how to shoot this kind of series, without falling into the worn-out cliches, although there is nothing particularly ingenious in this, for example, series. I would even say that this is not a detective, but a drama, since much more attention is paid to people’s relationships and their actions than to solving criminal crimes, although the whole action takes place against their background, since the main character is police sergeant Katherine Cawood (Sarah Lancashire). There were once in her life and the best kind of times, she worked as a detective, but for personal reasons went to work in the patrol service, in the life of her family there was a tragedy - she committed suicide after the birth of her son, born as a result of rape, her 18-year-old daughter, Catherine's marriage after that collapsed, moreover, the relationship with her son collapsed, because neither husband nor son understood that she undertook to raise her grandson, in which at any moment the genes of his father Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) - a notorious scound murderer and manipulator, she should give it to them. As further events show, their fears were not completely groundless, but she loves her grandson and they eventually establish some kind of contact with him. In this film, as is often the case in films of this kind with such characters, there is not a single truly happy person, and indeed they are very often found in life. Sarah herself is also one of these people, she does not have an easy character, however, she treats the work responsibly and often comes to the aid of people who many would give up. The work of the police, despite the seemingly active, is also shown not at all complementary, crimes are sometimes solved not thanks to the work of the thought of some detective, although some have glimpses, but simply by chance. And suddenly there is a murderer among the police. Despite such a rather gloomy overall atmosphere, the series looks with interest, the actors are also not bad, especially Sarah Lancashire and James Norton in the role of a vile criminal.
